Baby food introduction: a guide for Tunisia

When to start?

The WHO recommends starting solid food introduction from 6 months, while maintaining breastfeeding.

Recommended first foods

In Tunisia, you can gradually introduce:

  • Vegetable purées: zucchini, carrot, sweet potato
  • Local fruits: banana, apple, prickly pear (in moderation)
  • Cereals: fine semolina, rice
  • Proteins: chicken, turkey, fish (from 7-8 months)

Foods to avoid before 1 year

  • Honey (botulism risk)
  • Whole nuts (choking risk)
  • Added salt and sugar
  • Cow's milk as main drink
